Kordia Solutions Australia has announced the acquisition of Queensland based engineering design company QMD (Quality Managed Design).

The significant strategic acquisition represents the first local transaction for Kordia in Australia since being acquired by Kordia Group in 2005 and signals the company’s intent to consolidate its position as the leading Australian player in advanced network deployment.

QMD, a privately held company, was founded four years ago by two widely experienced former Telstra telecommunications designers and has been providing specialist engineering design services to top tier companies in the telecommunications services industry.

QMD founders, Terry Mulvey and Ian Thompson will join Kordia as senior managers.

QMD has developed a reputation for advanced design expertise in FTTP deployments with projects including the Sanctuary Cove FTTH Project and Alcatel Lucent’s ISAM FD trial in Veresdale Queensland.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for QMD to share our experience and work with the fastest growing telecommunications solutions provider and an emerging key player in the NBN rollout,” said Mr Mulvey.

Mr Thompson added, “There are a lot of large companies out there with some telecommunications skill sets.  What we have witnessed with Kordia is that they have a huge opportunity to capitalise on their comprehensive resources. A company like Kordia that now has such a broad and deep skill set under one roof should be highly attractive to the NBN.”

As a result of this acquisition, Kordia has bolstered its Broadband Solutions division, under the leadership of Kul Bhatia.

The new team will utilise over 70 Kordia internal designers and numerous external resources, with Terry Mulvey as National Design Consultant and Quality Management and Ian Thompson as National Design Manager.
