SEEKA EMBRACEs TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE OPERATIONS

Seeka is New Zealand’s largest kiwifruit grower, and Australia’s largest producer and supplier of kiwifruit and Nashi pears. Since 1980, they’ve been based in the small township of Te Puke, with orchards and worksites spanning all the way from Opotiki to Kerikeri.

As the backbone of their IT infrastructure, Seeka’s network serves as a nervous system to keep all their many parts working together and in constant communication with one another. And because of the decentralised and often remote nature of their business, having reliable connectivity between sites is crucial.

Seeka was previously limited in what their network was able to accomplish. By improving their connectivity and by exploring innovative technologies, Seeka is changing the ways that they’re able to look after their equipment, their kiwifruit, and their most valuable assets—the people who work for them.

Orchard workers are often required to work alone and in remote locations, which can pose some serious dangers if an accident were to occur. By adopting the use of wearable tech, like location trackers and remote panic devices, Seeka is notified if an emergency arises and can quickly locate the employee—no matter how deep in the bush they might be—to send help.
