Kordia welcomes the appointment of Ben Kepes as Chair of Kordia Group, alongside the appointment of David Boyes and Jason McDonald as Directors this week.

The appointments were announced by Hon Simeon Brown, Minister for State Owned Enterprises.

Kepes joined the Kordia Board in 2021 and has served as Deputy Chair since 2022. A globally recognised technology leader specialising in cloud computing, enterprise technology and digital transformation; he is a recipient of the Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award and currently serves on the boards of Pegasus Health, Paenga Kupenga, Unimed, Cactus Outdoor and Corde. Kepes is also a member of Kordia's Audit, Risk & Environment Committee and People, Wellbeing & Safety Committee.

Kepes said: "It is an honour to be appointed Chair of Kordia. I look forward to building on the strong foundations established by Sophie Haslem and the Board, and working with my fellow Directors and the executive team as Kordia continues to deliver the critical services New Zealand depends on."

David Boyes and Jason McDonald have been appointed for three-year terms.

Boyes brings extensive executive leadership experience across operations, business transformation and technology. He serves on the board of Mercy Hospice, is a board working group advisor to Zespri and is the owner of Bluehead Ltd.

McDonald has held senior leadership roles across New Zealand's energy sector and is active in infrastructure governance. He is Chair of Connetics and a Director of organisations including CentrePort, Clarus, Orion and Helios Energy.

Kordia Chief Executive Neil Livingston said Kepes’ technology expertise and strategic insight had made a significant contribution to the Board during his time as Deputy Chair.

"We are delighted to welcome Ben as Chair and look forward to working with David and Jason as Kordia continues to strengthen its leadership in mission-critical communications and cyber resilience."

Livingston also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Chair Sophie Haslem and retiring Directors Kent Pohio and Martin Matthews, who are stepping down at the end of their terms.

"Sophie's leadership has helped guide Kordia through a period of change, including the reset of our strategy and renewed focus on our core strengths. Alongside Kent and Martin, she has made a significant contribution to the organisation, and we thank them for their dedication and service,” Livingston said.

Haslem said: "It has been an honour to serve Kordia as a Director and Chair over the past nine years. I am proud of what we have achieved together and grateful to have worked alongside such a committed Board, leadership team and employees. Kordia has a clear strategy, exceptional people and a strong future ahead, and I leave with every confidence in the organisation's continued success."
