Channel 200 helping important messages reach more New Zealanders

When community organisations have an important message to share, reaching audiences isn’t always easy. Not everyone has access to online streaming and that’s where television still plays an important role.

Kordia’s Freeview Channel 200 provides organisations with a way to broadcast ready-to-air content into homes across New Zealand, helping community-minded messages reach a potentially large nationwide audience. The channel is available through Freeview at no cost to viewers.

Accessible election information

This month Deaf Aotearoa is using Channel 200 as part of its work to make information about the 2026 General Election more accessible to New Zealand’s Deaf community.

Viewers will have the opportunity to access New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) content from their own homes. More information, including times and dates for the Leaders’ Debates, is available on the Deaf Aotearoa website.

Mark Crooke, General Manager - Interpreting and Translation at Deaf Aotearoa says: “Channel 200 gives the Deaf community direct access to important information in New Zealand Sign Language on a mainstream, nationwide television platform.

“Our experience using Channel 200 for live events and media briefings has shown how valuable it is to have NZSL presented clearly and prominently, rather than as an afterthought. Making Channel 200 slots available to community organisations creates more opportunities for communities to share accessible, relevant content and reach people who may otherwise miss out.”

Supporting New Zealand communities

Matt Patterson, Head of Sales - Specialist Solutions, says Kordia has a number of broadcasting slots available for community organisations, local sporting clubs and event organisers on a short or long-term basis.

“Community organisations play an important role in making sure important information reaches the people who need it. Channel 200 gives those organisations another way to extend the reach of their message, using the nationwide network of free-to-air television.”

Organisations need to provide their own pre-recorded, ready-to-air content in a format suitable for television broadcast.
